what garden did for kitchen

We've been ignoring the balcony for the past six months, but ever since we've planted stuff, it's suddenly got new life. (It could also have to do with the recent Cape Town sunshine.) Anyway, this is how it made our lives even better: we finally have a blue kitchen!

Step one: put on lucky heart and Mandela apron.
Step two: start stripping the ugly white paint with heat gun and scraper.
Step three: let hubby do the rest while the plants silently watch.

And voila!

More planting

We don't have enough pots for this, but I couldn't help myself when I saw these seed packets in the hardware shop over the weekend. So I've planted more stuff. Hold thumbs that the seeds will grow!

I planted baby spinach, Rodade tomatoes, parsley and nasturtiums (colour: scarlet jewel). I had to dig up old ice cream and strawberry containers to make space.

What he did while I planted: painted our kitchen cupboards. That is another story - one on which I will report when I have both before and after pics.

Our first salad. Ingredients from the garden: thyme and lettuce.

Bathroom happiness: week one - jasmine, week two - lavender branches.

Starting out

I am so excited about this. We've been married six, almost seven months and last weekend we finally started a garden. Yes, it's only on the balcony. But it's beautiful.
